OUR TOP PICK

SAMSUNG Galaxy Watch 5 40mm Bluetooth Smartwatch w/Body, Health, Fitness and Sleep Tracker, Improved Battery, Sapphire Crystal Glass, Enhanced GPS Tracking, US Version, Gray

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is an expensive but impressive smart watch on the market.

As the latest Galaxy Watch, there is a selection of 5 different colors available to choose from.

You can also choose three different sizes: 40mm, 44mm, or 45mm. The watch face is round with a sapphire crystal glass screen, and it offers a modern yet traditional look.

You can connect it to your Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth or LTE. Regardless of who owns it, it’s a smartwatch that is popular among both men and women.

The Galaxy Watch 5 offers many helpful ways to help you out. Not only does it connect to your phone and allow you to check your notifications on the go, but it is an incredible fitness tracker.

It has enhanced GPS so that you can navigate without having to check your phone, and you can even analyze different ways to improve your health.

You can wear it in your sleep to check your sleeping patterns, and you can also check your blood pressure and test how long you’ve been active.

The only issues I’ve found it has is that the battery life won’t last as long due to the number of functions available, and the band isn’t too durable, nor is it particularly waterproof.

Pros

  • Screen Durability
  • Multi-Functionality
  • Style
  • Compatible with Android and iOS

Cons

  • Battery Life
  • Band Durability
  • Water Resistance

SAMSUNG Galaxy Watch 4 40mm Smartwatch with ECG Monitor Tracker for Health, Fitness, Running, Sleep Cycles, GPS Fall Detection, Bluetooth, US Version, SM-R860NZKAXAA, Black

As the predecessor to our first choice, the Galaxy Watch 4 is a slightly more affordable option for those who want to invest in the brand.

It’s available in four different colors, and you can choose between sizes of 40mm and 44mm.

You can connect to both iOS and Android devices via the app by Bluetooth or LTE, making it an extension of your phone.

Surprisingly, it has many similarities between itself and its successor.

You can connect to your phone and receive notifications and messages.

Not only that, but you can also check your body composition analysis and check your heart rate, sleep health, and your blood pressure.

If you want to save anything, you can send reports to your app to share with your doctor too.

Exercising is done with ease, and there are 6 popular workout activities on the Galaxy Watch 4.

However, we’ve noticed that the battery life is still an issue, as it overheats and it also has similar issues with water resistance as the Galaxy Watch 5.

Pros

  • Multi-Functionality
  • Style
  • Compatible with Android and iOS

Cons

  • Battery
  • Overheating
  • Water Resistance

MorePro Smart Watch, Fitness Tracker with Heart Rate Blood Pressure Monitor, Fitness Watch & Blood Oxygen Step Tracker,Pedometer Activity Touch Screen IP68 Waterproof Sleep Tracker for Women Men Black

If you want a slightly more affordable smartwatch, I would recommend the MorePro.

It comes in three different colors, and has a modern design. Not only is it available for both men and women, but also for children.

Of course, I recommend only giving one to an older child, as it needs to have the app running on their phone to work.

It doesn’t matter if you have an iOS or Android, as both are compatible.

I should also inform you that it also may not have a warranty if you get it with Amazon, so this may deter you from purchasing one.

Generally, this smartwatch does quite a lot for the price you buy it for.

It has 20 different sports modes available, and can monitor your sleep schedule, blood pressure, and the amount of blood oxygen.

Plus, it even tracks your menstrual cycle, all you need to do to change modes is cycle between two buttons and the 1.7’’ HD touch screen.

As a whole, it offers a lot of opportunity for anyone who wants to schedule more into their lives.

Overall, the battery is pretty impressive, but unfortunately, the blood pressure and heart rate aren’t completely accurate.

Pros

  • Multi-Functionality
  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices
  • Battery Life

Cons

  • No Warranty on Amazon
  • Inaccurate Readings
  • App Needs To Be Running

HalfSun 1.69'' Touch Screen Smart Watch, IP 68 Waterproof Fitness Tracker Smartwatch with Heart Rate Blood Pressure Sleep Monitor Pedometer Weather Forecast for Men Women for Android iOS

HalfSun has produced an inexpensive fitness tracker that has some smartwatch capabilities.

It is available in three different colors, and has a HD touch screen that you can use.

It is suitable for both men and women, and compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

You just need to install the app, which you can then connect to via Bluetooth.

However, I should note that when you use the app, you may find a few grammatical issues in the app, which may bother some users.

This fitness tracker has a low power consumption and a powerful battery, allowing you to track your heart rate, blood pressure, and sleep health in real time.

However, I have noticed there have been issues with both the blood pressure readings and sleep health.

I haven’t found any issues with some of the other features, which are more closely related to the smartphone.

You can easily check the weather, and use it for your workouts to see how well you’re performing, and get alerts from your phone.

All in all, if you want a budget smartwatch, this is a good choice.

Pros

  • Multi-Functionality
  • Battery Life
  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices

Cons

  • The App
  • Inaccurate Readings

The Kimnix smartwatch is a great smartwatch that is suitable for both adults and older children.

It’s available in two different colors and has a rectangular screen. While it doesn’t stand out in appearance, it provides a functional design.

It’s compatible with both iOS and Android, and you can also use it to make and receive calls, making it a good choice for a parent with teenagers.

While you can’t reply to text messages, it’s perfect for when you want to get a quick response via call.

Even though you can’t reply to text messages, you can still get notifications. Not only is it great as an addition for your smartphone, but it also has a great fitness tracker.

You can monitor your blood oxygen, blood pressure, and track your sleep. Plus, you can check the weather and control the music.

Unfortunately, due to its affordability, you may find that its blood pressure and blood oxygen readings aren’t the most accurate.

I’ve also noticed that the battery life isn’t as great as it's been advertised, but otherwise, it's a suitable smartwatch.

Pros

  • Multi-Functionality
  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices
  • Phone Calls

Cons

  • Inaccurate Readings
  • Battery Life

The WAFA fitness tracker is available in four different colors, and is compatible with both iOS and Android smartphones.

Using this watch, you can get notifications from your phone and maintain your health, all at once.

If you’re looking for a budget friendly fitness tracker, then the WAFA fitness tracker might be best for you.

However, you might find it an issue that you need to keep the app running for the smartwatch to work.

Not only does it work as a companion to your phone, but it also is great for monitoring your health.

It uploads the data you need to the app automatically, which means it will include your heart rate and blood pressure and everything else in the report.

Unfortunately, for a budget device, the readings aren’t always accurate. However, in spite of this, it’s good for anyone who wants a smartwatch to use during the day.

I would recommend it for sleeping, but ultimately, the battery life isn’t the best.

Pros

  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices
  • Multi-Functionality
  • Automatic Uploads

Cons

  • Battery Life
  • Inaccurate Readings
  • App Needs To Be Running

There is also a 24/7 temperature check to keep up with the weather.

While it is easy to use, I have noticed that the battery life isn’t perfect, so it might not be best suited for monitoring your sleep.

The MAX TOP fitness tracker is an inexpensive smartwatch that comes in two different colors.

It’s compatible with both iOS and Android devices, so you can connect it to your smartphone to receive notifications.

Using the MAX TOP fitness tracker, you can set your alarm and track how active you’ve been.

As a whole, it’s best used as a fitness tracker rather than a smartwatch.

If you’re looking for a basic fitness tracker that will last for a long time, then this may be an excellent choice.

You just need to keep an eye on where you use it, as it’s not completely waterproof. If you want to replace the band, you can with ease.

However, when you use this, you’ll need to ensure you upload all the relevant information to your health manually, as it doesn’t automatically upload to the app.

  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices
  • Battery Life
  • Multi-Functionality

If you want a device that will ensure you keep on the move, then you may prefer this one. It’s best for adults who want to keep an eye on their health or have an activity tracker.

Of course, you can also receive notifications for phone calls and text notifications.

There’s a lot you can do with this smartwatch, but due to that there have been issues with the battery life.

You can use it for notifications for your phone and keep an eye on how active you are, and it will also notify you when you should start moving again.

Unfortunately, due to how much is on there, you may find that the readings aren’t the most accurate.

I’ve also heard some reports that customer service isn't as helpful compared to some of the other competitors, so you should keep this in mind when you need help.

The CEGAR 2021 fitness tracker is only available in one color, but it’s compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Generally, it’s a great fitness tracker that is suitable for both men and women.

It has an incredibly durable screen, made with 2.5D tempered glass, so you don’t need to worry about it breaking while you’re exercising.

As a whole, it offers a considerable amount of features available for an inexpensive smartwatch.

Not only does it offer many features such as a blood pressure monitor and other fitness tools, but it’s also an excellent companion to your smartphone (see also 'Do Fitness Tracker Blood Pressure Monitors Really Work?').

The only issues I’ve found with it are that the blood pressure readings aren’t entirely accurate, and that the battery life gets somewhat worse over time.

  • Compatible with iOS and Android Devices
  • Multi-Functionality
  • Screen Durability

It has a modern design, with a rectangular screen that has a good user interface.

It is water resistant, so you don’t need to worry about it getting wet, but I still wouldn’t necessarily spend too long in the water with it.

It is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, so you can get notifications from your smartphone.

Not only can you get notifications, but this is best used by sports enthusiasts as it has over 25 sports modes.

If you want to check how long you have been working out or changing your music, you can with ease.

However, I would say that the battery life isn’t perfect considering how many features are available.

I’ve also had some issues regarding the blood pressure readings, as I’ve had conflicting results.

It also has a feature that allows you to check your menstrual cycle, as well as offer 24 hour heart rate monitoring.

Buying Guide

To help you understand how I judged these smartwatches, I’ll take you through the criteria that I was assessing them by.

Hopefully, by the end of this section, you’ll understand which of these smartwatches is right for you.

Multi-Functionality

Many smartwatches and fitness trackers are designed with multi-functionality in mind. These aren’t just fitness trackers, but they’re also add-ons to your smartphones.

Instead of using them for only one purpose, you can use them on the go too. They’re designed for someone who’s busy, and I think this should be a key factor in the decision process.

Battery Life

Many users prefer to check their sleep patterns at night, but unfortunately sometimes it’s not possible due to the battery.

I believe that by seeing how the battery life works, you can see whether you will be able to wear it as often as you want.

Therefore, if the battery life is misleading, I feel it is better to inform you before you purchase it.

Water Resistance

Not everyone runs, and some users prefer to swim. You may also want to wear your smartwatch in the shower.

If you do, I feel like it’s right to inform you when there are issues with the water resistance of your smartwatch.

Many of these smartwatches cannot handle hot water, but may be able to be submerged in hot water.

In fact, some of these are suitable for swimming in. If you’re uncertain, always check the user reviews so you can find your ideal smartwatch.

Durability

If you want to exercise often, it’s better to know whether it will still work in harsh conditions.

Some of these smartwatches are more durable than others, and the screen plays a big part.

If you want a smartwatch where the screen is surely not going to break on you, then you should look for one with good durability.

Style

I felt like it was better to mention whether a smartwatch had a distinct style to it. If you’re looking for functionality instead of fashion, you can ignore this criteria.

However, sometimes the style is the deciding factor, so it felt relevant to include this if the style stood out from any other factors.

Compatibility

Not all smartwatches are compatible with both Android and iOS, so it felt pertinent to include what systems they work with.

However, I should inform you that you should always check the manufacturer’s instructions to find out if your software needs to be updated before you install the app.

Warranty

Although this isn’t pertinent to all of the smartwatches, if the warranty doesn’t cover you through Amazon, then I thought it would be best to mention it.

Many smartwatches have a warranty in case anything goes wrong, so that you can either get it repaired or replaced.

However, some of these may not have a decent warranty, and it may be better to purchase them elsewhere.

Phone Calls

If you want a smartphone that can also answer and receive phone calls, then not all smartwatches are suitable.

While many smartwatches can receive notifications, not all of them can make or receive phone calls.

So if this is a deciding factor, you should keep an eye out and ensure that your next smartwatch does as is advertised.

Customizability

Sometimes the band of your smartwatch breaks. If it does this, you might want to replace it, and maybe customize it as you prefer.

Not all of these smartwatches have this option, so if you want to change the band, then you should check if you can.

Inaccurate Readings

One of the main reasons you’re buying a smartwatch is to check your blood pressure.

While you should ideally confirm your blood pressure with a cuff, it doesn’t mean you always have one on hand.

Instead, a blood pressure check on your smartwatch can be helpful.

Unfortunately, not all of these readings are accurate, while all of these have strengths to them, I believe it’s better to be transparent about how well the blood pressure readings will be.

User Interface

Not everyone who gets a smartwatch has an understanding of the latest tech. Some of these smartwatches have a difficult user interface that makes them unfriendly for first time users.

If you’re new to smartwatches, this may be a factor that influences your decision to buy one.

App

All smartwatches are connected to your smartphone via your app. It connects through either Bluetooth or LTE, and the app can be a deciding factor on whether you buy it.

Not all apps are easy to use, and some may have key grammatical issues that might bother you.

Most importantly, you might need to transfer your data to the app, and if the app doesn’t work, this could be an issue.

If there have been issues with the app, I thought it would be best to mention it here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will An Apple Watch Measure Blood Pressure?

You won’t be able to measure your blood pressure directly with an Apple watch.

Instead, you’ll need to get a medical-grade blood pressure monitor to sync your data with the Apple Health app.

So, no, the Apple Watch doesn’t measure your blood pressure.

Can A Smartwatch Measure Blood Sugar?

There isn’t currently a watch that can measure your blood sugar directly, however, if you have prediabetes and own a Fitbit, you might be able to track changes in your blood sugar control.

Do Smartwatches Detect Health Problems?

Newer generations of smartwatches can track your heart rate and blood pressure, but they aren’t designed to be a diagnostic tool (see also 'Does Your Smartwatch Know Your Blood Pressure?').

These aren’t must-have health accessories. If you do have health concerns, you should contact your doctor to discuss it with them, and not rely on smartwatches as they might not be completely accurate in their readings.

Is Wearing A Smartwatch Good For Your Health?

You can use smartwatches to track everything from your steps per day, heart rate, and calories burned each day.

However, they are only good for your health if you act on improving your health with a smartwatch. These will only work if you challenge yourself regularly.

However, you may also have a smartwatch to monitor your health. If so, you can use them to check your blood pressure and heart rate, but any readings should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Do Smartwatches Measure Blood Pressure Accurately?

I’m going to give an honest answer: it depends. There are many factors that impact whether a smartwatch or fitness tracker will measure blood pressure accurately (see also 'Can Garmin Smartwatches Measure Blood Pressure?').

It might be because of the sensors, or wearing the watch in the wrong way.

If you want to take a reading, you’ll need to follow the instructions in your smartwatch’s manual carefully.

Smartwatches use two types of technology: PAT and PPG. PAT is the Pulse Arrival Time which is approved by the FDA.

These sensors will measure the time it takes for a pulse wave to travel between two arterial sites, which is directly related to your blood pressure.

PPG, however, stands for Photoplethysmography, which uses optical light to detect blood patterns.

These sensors aren’t approved by the FDA, as they use AI to convert the blood patterns into blood pressure readings.

PPG is commonly used, and so they may produce the most inaccurate readings.

Final Thoughts

If you’re thinking about buying a smartwatch to check your blood pressure, you should do your research.

I can’t tell you enough that they shouldn’t be used as a substitute for an actual blood pressure cuff as the readings aren’t always accurate.

If you have a smartwatch that uses PPG to read blood pressure, you should know that they’re not the most accurate.

So, try not to use these as medical tools, as they haven’t been designed for that kind of use.

It’s good to be curious about your health, but smartwatches aren’t designed for medical diagnostics.

Instead, you should always visit your doctor if you’re concerned with your help.
