The Fitbit Sense is an incredibly high-tech smartwatch that is packed full of a ton of unique features that can help you manage your life by providing information about your mental and physical well-being, along with keeping track of your diet and daily habits.
The truth is however, despite this watch being extraordinarily innovative and considered top-quality when it comes to Fitbit products, it’s not always precisely clear for new users how to actually use one, and how you can boot up the watch so that it can begin monitoring your body and activities.
Luckily, we’ve got a full tutorial of how to turn on the Fitbit Sense right here, along with how to shut it off when you’re done using it so that you can save some battery and leave it on charge ready for when you next want to strap it around your wrist.
How Do You Turn On And Activate The Fitbit Sense?
Turning on the Fitbit Sense can be a little more complicated than it seems because the watch needs to verify that you actually intend to activate the device and its functionality so that it doesn’t come on accidentally when you brush past it.
To prevent the watch from turning on unexpectedly, the Fitbit Sense is fitted with an indentation on the side of the watch which will need to be pressed down in order to turn the watch on.
Hold it down for 5 seconds and you will feel the haptic feedback vibration which will let you know it has turned on, along with the Fitbit logo flashing on the screen briefly.
Average Battery Life For The Fitbit Sense
When they are fully charged, both the Fitbit Sense and Sense 2 will have an average battery life of between 11 and 12 hours, though do keep in mind that the battery can last even longer when turning off some of the more advanced features built into the device.
For example, the SPO2 blood oxygen saturation function takes up a lot of power, but you can easily turn it off by navigating to the Settings section of the interface.
You can also lower the brightness of the watch screen or you can turn on the power saving mode to help the battery last as long as possible.
Always keep in mind that live wallpapers are actually one of the biggest reasons the battery on a Fitbit Sense will drain a lot faster than usual, so if you’re a little more cautious about your watch staying on and active throughout the day, choosing a static wallpaper is the much more optimal option.
Turning Off The Fitbit Sense
Turning off the Fitbit Sense is quick, easy, and responsive so you won’t have to toggle through multiple menus just to switch it off.
When you want to deactivate a Fitbit Sense, simply press the “Home” button which is on the left, and then proceed by swiping to the “Settings” screen.
On the bottom right you will see an arrow, tap on this and then click on the checkmark logo to shut down the watch.
It’s also important for every user to know about the Sleep function which is a handy way to ensure that your watch isn’t left on when you don’t need to be using it which can end up wasting the battery.
The way this works is through the Sleep Mode Schedule Interval which can be set by the user.
Between the time set, the watch will automatically switch off and conserve battery, however, you will still be able to turn it on during this time if you still need to use it.
To get to the Sleep Mode Schedule, simply open Settings and tap on the “Quiet” option where you will then be given the option to adjust the Sleep Mode Schedule Interval.
Swipe up or down to set your schedule, along with what days you want the schedule to take effect, and your watch will automatically turn off at that set time.
What To Do If A Fitbit Sense Is Not Turning On
If you find that your Fitbit Sense isn’t responding when you hold down the power button for more than 5 seconds, there are a few ways to troubleshoot this.
You will first want to try restarting the watch rather than turning it on in order to reboot the entire system.
You can do this by holding down the power for 10 seconds and then releasing it as soon as you see the Fitbit logo.
Make sure when attempting a restart that the watch is plugged into a charger, just to double-check that it isn’t completely dead.
The Fitbit Sense will sometimes still be unresponsive if it is on a low battery level when you try to boot it up, so it can be best to let it charge for 1 to 2 hours before trying again.
It can also be worth cleaning the charging contacts on the back of the Sense along with those found on the charging pad since this could be the cause of the issue.
The charging contacts should be either brown or gold in color, and to clean them you can simply use a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol, just always make sure they are completely dry before using them again.
Finally, while this might sound like an obvious fix, it is one that has saved many people who think that their Fitbit Sense has unexpectedly died on them.
Make sure your brightness is above the minimum level since having it at the lowest can cause the Fitbit to turn off more frequently, giving off the impression that the watch has shut down entirely.
Summary
The Fitbit Sense is one of the most highly praised and modernized watches on the market today, and while it can definitely take a bit of practice getting used to all the buttons and extra features, once you know how to turn it on, you will have full access to everything this incredible watch has to offer.
