What Is An Apple Watch?
So, firstly, what is an Apple Watch? Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock, there is a very good chance that you have heard of a smartwatch.
Smartwatches are a type of watch that have smart features, similar to the features that your smartphone offers. As you would expect, the Apple Watch is produced by tech giant, Apple.
Due to the huge popularity associated with the company, Apple, a lot of people opt for this smartwatch over other companies.
The Apple Watch was one of the first smartwatches released onto the market, and since the first model was released in 2014, many new models have been added to Apple’s product range.
While some of the original models of Apple Watch have since been discontinued, there are currently 3 models of Apple Watch available for sale.
These models include: the series 8, the SE 2, and the Ultra. All of these models are slightly different from one another, with different features, but the same main purpose.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at how long it takes for them to charge.
How Long Does An Apple Watch Take To Charge?
Now that I’ve told you all about the Apple Watch, without further ado, let’s take a look at how long it takes for these watches to charge.
As I have mentioned, there are quite a lot of different models of Apple Watch, and so the charging time will differ from model to model.
As newer models have been released onto the market, the charging time has decreased, so the amount of time that it will take for your Apple Watch to charge will differ hugely depending on your model.
Of course, just because there are currently only 3 models of Apple Watch available to purchase from new, this doesn’t mean that we can forget about the older models entirely.
You may already own an older model, or you may have purchased an older model second-hand. Either way, it is important that we take a look at all the different charging times for the different models of Apple Watch.
According to Apple, the charging time for the Apple Watch is as follows:
- Apple Watch Series 3 – 90 minutes (0-80%) | 120 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch Series 6 – 60 minutes (0-80%) | 90 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch Series 7 – 45 minutes (0-80%) | 75 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch Series 8 – 45 minutes (0-80%) | 75 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch SE – 90 minutes (0-80%) | 150 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch SE (2022) – 90 minutes (0-80%) | 150 minutes (0-100%)
- Apple Watch Ultra – 60 minutes (0-80%) | 90 minutes (0-100%)
Charging your Apple Watch can often seem fairly inconvenient.
In order to charge your Apple Watch, you will need to take it off, and this means that you will not be able to track any of your bodily functions and movements while your watch is charging.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at when is the best time to charge your Apple Watch.
When Should I Charge My Apple Watch?
One of the biggest attractions of an Apple Watch is that you can use this piece of technology to track your sleeping habits.
Not only can your Smartwatch give you notifications for your social media accounts, alert you of incoming calls, and track the steps that you walk during a day, your smartwatch can also track your sleeping patterns.
This is one of the biggest attractions of the Apple Watch.
However, the fact that you can use your Apple Watch to track your sleeping habits makes finding the right time to charge your watch difficult.
Unlike other types of technology, you won’t be able to charge your Apple Watch at night, unless you are happy to go without tracking your sleep.
The good news is that you can track your sleep and charge your Apple Watch.
While you cannot do this simultaneously, getting into good charging habits will easily allow you to keep your Apple Watch charged at all times.
Ideally, you should charge your Apple Watch in periods where you aren’t really doing too much. So, when you sit down to watch some TV, or eat a meal, pop your watch on charge at the same time.
Alternatively, you could charge your Apple Watch for half the full charging time in the morning, and half the full charging time in the evening before you go to bed.
This will ensure that your Apple Watch is always fully charged and able to track your habits.
Summary
In short, the amount of time that it takes for an Apple Watch to charge differs depending on the model of Apple Watch that you have.
Some of the more basic models, including the Series 8 can charge to full in as little as 75 minutes. But some of the more advanced models, including the 2022 SE will take significantly longer to charge.
Building a good charging routine is the key to ensuring that you do not miss out on any habits being tracked while your Apple Watch is charging (see also ‘Does Waze Work on Apple Watch?‘).
